Red sox trade for Cashner

Red Sox trade for Andrew Cashner

Well folks, it happened, good ol’ Dave Dombrowski made a move just a mere 18 days before the trade deadline. You heard it right, the Sox went out and got their guy, their 5th spot starter from the Orioles. They went out and got Andrew Cashner.

Now with Cashner he comes in sporting a 9-3 record on the season with a 3.83 ERA, and a nifty 1.41 ERA in his last 5 starts. He also has 6+ innings pitched in 10 of his 17 starts.

This move gives the Sox a solid number 5 guy behind our 1-4 guys in Sale, Price, Porcello, and Rodriguez.

Initial Reaction

I personally think this is a great move due to the fact that they didn’t have to give up much for Cashner. To get Cashner the Sox sent infielder Noelberth Romero and outfielder Elio Prado.

This assures that we can move Brian Johnson to the bullpen and have a sold closer in Eovaldi. It also helps solidify the back end of the bullpen by having Workman and Barnes as legitimate setup men.

Time will tell how this all pans out for the defending champs, but I for one am looking forward to the remainder of the season and obviously deep into October.

Go Sox
